much more elegant way.

La bibliothèque standard PHP (SPL) est une collection d'interfaces et de classes qui ont été créées afin de résoudre les problèmes communs.
SPL fournit des structures de données, un ensemble d'itérateur pour traverser des objets, des interfaces, un ensemble d'exceptions standards ainsi qu'un certain nombre de classes pour travailler avec des fichiers. SPL fournit aussi un jeu de fonctions telle que spl_autoload_register().

SPL provides a standard set of interfaces for PHP5. The aim of SPL is to implement some efficient data access interfaces and classes for PHP. Functionally it is designed to traverse aggregate structures (anything you want to loop over). These may include arrays, database result sets, xml trees, directory listings or any list at all. Currently SPL deals with Iterators.
